Blue Runtz Flower by Alpine Agronomy — flower | NY cannabis review

"Earth, cream, and spice dominate where the blueberry should be, but the energetic hybrid effect and a grower-strong 3.99% terpene load make Alpine Agronomy's Blue Runtz a jar that grows on you."

Quick Take

Blue Runtz from Alpine Agronomy is a strong, energetic hybrid with a 3.99% terpene load, but the berry the name promises never really shows up, earth and spice run the session instead.

Look & Feel

Medium nugs, light green with patches of dark green and splashes of purple. Sparse red hairs and a sprinkling of sticky trichomes. A little dank, above average for the market but a step below other Alpine pickups.

Nose

Earth, cream, and spice, with a light blueberry trying to peak through underneath.

Method

Tempest v2 + j-hook, Venty, Solo III.

Taste

Earth and spice come through first and stay in front. Cream and berry rest on the tongue through the middle, and the finish is earth again with a light sweetness sitting on top of it. Same story no matter how I extracted it.

Effects

A middling body high with an undercurrent of energy building inside you, and a bit of dreaminess in the mind. You can lock in, but do you want to?

Best for: Daytime, riding a bike, socializing, anything active.

Value

Price: $50/3.5g

That works out to about $14.29/g, top of the craft range in New York. The potency backs it at 33.4% total THC, and 3.99% total terpenes across 15 compounds is genuinely strong for flower. What you are paying for is the chemistry, not the bag appeal or the flavor, which is where this one comes up short of the price.

Conclusion

8.25/10

Regardless of how I extracted it, the predominant flavors here are earth, cream, and spice. I would have liked the berry to come through more, especially on a strain called Blue Runtz. The effect is a little above middle of the road with that undercurrent of energy behind it. Looks aren't terrible, above average in the market, but disappointing compared to other Alpine pickups I've had, like the John Truffolta. That might just be genetics. By the end of the jar I enjoyed this strain much more than I did at the start, though I'm not sure I'd get it again. I also took terrible photos, so I'm sorry.

Pros:

  • Strong 3.99% terpene content across 15 compounds
  • High potency at 33.4% total THC
  • Energetic, active hybrid effect with mental clarity
  • Improved noticeably as the jar went on

Cons:

  • Blueberry never materializes, earth and spice dominate throughout
  • Bag appeal below Alpine's usual standard
  • $14.29/g is a lot for a flavor profile this one-note
  • No product or strain page for more info
